Thanks to all our members for your continued support – without you there would be no club. We’re always on the lookout for people who’d like to become more involved, and it’s nice to see a couple of new faces on the committee this year. Remember, this is your club. See later in the newsletter for a full list of who to contact.

Your Newsletter

Spring 2013

Welcome back to your Newsletter! The plan is to send all members 4 newsletters a year, coinciding with the seasons, to keep you updated on all club matters. We’d love to hear your views on anything to do with the club, or even tennis in general. So please drop us a line at ‘andy.cross@ebltc.org.uk’ and you may feature in the next edition in Summer!

Social Tennis Sessions

Confirmation that our Tuesday evening social sessions still run from 6pm to 8pm, alongside our normal Sunday morning sessions from 10am to midday. Juniors have their own dedicated social tennis on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 7pm.

Round Robins are organised every month from April to September, and then over the Winter period, the Mike Venn Trophy tournament takes place, again monthly. The next Round Robin will be on Saturday 4th May, call Jan Hale for details.

Subscriptions for the year 2013-2014 were voted to be as follows: Standard British Tennis Member*

  Standard British Tennis Member*
Adult £95 £85
Couple £140 £130
Family £190 £160
Senior Citizen £80 £70
Student £50 £40
Junior U16 £50 £40
Child under 10 £30 £20
Social (non-playing) £10 £10

These represent excellent value for money for a club with three high quality courts, floodlights, clubhouse and superb coaching facilities. We look forward to enjoying your membership for another year – if you have not yet returned your renewal form, please do as asap, or ask Helen Woodhead if you need another one.

*British Tennis Membership is completely free and entitles you to many If you’ve not yet renewed your membership, please try to do it this week; the

tennis-associated benefits including entry to the draw for Wimbledon tickets. 90% of our members are signed up to British Tennis. If you are not a member and would like more information, please contact a committee member.

Like to play more regularly?

Some members have said that they would like the opportunity to play the occasional friendly game against other club members. However they don’t know who to call who might be in a similar position. So, Glenn has offered to maintain and publish a list of members who would like to be contacted by others on the list for the occasional (or frequent…) game. If you’d like to be included, then please let Glenn know by either calling him on 01525 220006, or e-mail

New Website!

Keep an eye open for the launch of our new updated club website! From here you’ll be able to buy merchandise, book courts on-line, arrange coaching, see the latest club photographs, read our latest newsletters and see the calendar of forthcoming events, both on and off court. We’ll also have a Facebook page which you can visit, so watch this space and get ready to become our friend! Details will be published as soon as possible.

Like to help us earn £200?

As part of the Olympic Legacy, Sportsmakers are offering sporting clubs such as ourselves up to £200 in grants towards our coaching assistants, if we can involve more people in helping with the club in any small way possible. To be eligible for the maximum grant, we have to persuade t20 people to put 10 hours of work into the club over the next few months. All sorts of things count; taking your junior member to the coaching or lessons, even making tea for everyone in the clubhouse! All of the committee are taking part-  writing this newsletter takes a good few hours! – so if you’d like to get involved just contact president Ross Bagni who will give you all the details.

Just to clarify that’s Ross Bagni our club president, not President Ross Bagni as in President Obama. I know he’s ambitious. :).

A Thriving Club

EBLTC is going from strength to strength! We’ve getting on for 150 members, 50 of which are Juniors of a whole range of standards, from very beginners to a couple who have frequently represented our Ladies A team! This summer we’re entering no less than 12 teams in the South Beds league, 7 of them Junior teams. This follows a very successful 2012 summer season, including our Men’s B and Ladies teams winning their divisions and securing promotions. This success is in no small part due to some excellent individual and group coaching sessions from our club coach Sara Leavy, and a full list of available coaching can be found on page further down the page.

Focus on the Coach

Spring 2013

Our club coach is Sara Leavy, a fully licensed LTA level 3 performance coach and a PTR Pro, and now works directly for our club. For those of you who have not yet met Sara, here is a reminder of her background. We encourage you to come along to a session or two and see for yourselves how Sara can improve your game!

Sara has been playing tennis since she was 4 years old and has represented the county continuously over the years and started playing for the ladies teams at the age of 12. Sara has been county number one in her age group since she was 8. She has played at club, county and national levels and at the age of 18 was given a full scholarship to America at the University of Tennessee at Martin. In the 4 years Sara spent in America she consistently played in the top 2 positions on the team for singles and doubles. In 2006 Sara was awarded

Freshman of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference and in 2009 she was awarded Athlete of the Year at her University. In her senior year Sara was undefeated in the conference with a 10-0 record. Sara’s current LTA rating is 3.2

As a coach, Sara has been coaching since she was 12 years old where she started as a tennis assistant at Linslade TC. Sara has experience of coaching children and adults of varying standards and for the last 3 years before she joined us, coached at a summer tennis camp at the University of Pepperdine in Malibu, California.

For individual lessons contact Sara on 07561 571578. Private lessons are £20 an hour, or £12 for half an hour. Six sessions can be booked and paid for upfront for £100, effectively giving you 1 lesson free.
